Top Ten Lost Treasures part 1

The World is full of Lost Treasures. In the Sea alone there are treasures worth over 771 Trillion Dollars, can you imagine how much chocolate Toni could buy with that?! If there are so many lost treasures in the world why isn’t everyone looking for them? Well sometimes it is more expensive to find such a treasure than it is worth in the end. For all the other times it is that you need a lot of luck to find one. Want to know if you are lucky enough? Here are 10 Lost Treasures:

1)The 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet It was the year 1715 and the Spanish King Phillip V. Ordered his fleet to bring a massive amount of Gold, Jewels, and a lot, and we are talking a ridiculous amount here, of Silver to be brought to Spain from the New World. The fleet was the biggest treasure fleet in all of human history. The Spanish King wanted to fleet to arrive in time for a wedding so the fleet was pushed out in the Hurricane season. It was the night between the 30th and 31st of July when the whole fleet but one ship sank in the Gulf of Mexico. To this day you still can find coins along the coastline of the Gulf. Most of the ships also haven’t been found just yet. So pack your floaties, your squeaky duck, and get into the wee pond.

2) The lost Crown Jewels of King John In October 1216 lost Our Buddy King Johnny of England, the crown jewels while leading a campaign against rebellious barons. Against all advice of his buddies, John took a shortcut via the Wash, a tidal estuary on England’s east coast which is muddy as hell. He got across the causeway just in time to see the waters come rushing up behind him, what a knob. The wagon train with all his supplies and baggage—including, his Crown Jewels, which I know sounds naughty—sank without a trace. The incident has given countless British schoolchildren the joy of being able to say, “Bad King John lost his crown in the wash.” Besides this King is also known as the lad who is chiefly remembered for being forced to sign the Magna Carta.

3) The Ark of the Covenant Do you also hear the Whip and the Raiders march? The Ark of the Covenant is not only the favourite artifact of the role model of every archaeologist but also on of the most important lost treasures for the Jewish community. The Ark is mentioned in the Bible, and that usually means that it is mostly untrue, but the Ark was pictured by a roman collum that depicts the victory march of the Romans after the sacking of Jerusalem. So there is proof that it exists, the only problem is that there are so many different stories of where it went after the Romans had it.

4) The Treasure of the Templar OrderYou can’t talk about the Ark of the Covenant without also talking about the Treasure of the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar was a band of Christian Knights during the Crusades. They supposedly found the treasure of King Salomon in Jerusalem, which also according to legend has the Ark of the Covenant as a part. Besides this treasure, they also accumulated a lot of wealth due to the fact that they invented Banking. But It didn’t last long with the Templars on Friday the 13th 1307 The Templars were deemed unholy and sentenced to death. And here is the thing, the treasure they had was never found.

5) Flor de la MarThe Flor de la Mar, The Flower of the Sea, was a Portuguese Cargo ship in the 16th Century. It was too big and heavy to be a Battleship so, it was used to transport the seized Treasure of the Sultan of Malakka. It was 1511 when the ship sank in a storm. Some say it was somewhere of the coast of Sumatra. The Captain of the Flor de la Mar was a guy called Afonso de Albuquerque, and he was the sole survivor of this accident. The interesting part is that he was saved by a ship called the Trinidad, which was also the name of the Ship Ferdinand Magellan had when he was near Sumatra. The Years are a bit off by one or two but still interesting don’t you think?

6) The Tomb of Genghis KhanRemember Genghis Khan? Big angry Asian guy? Conquered almost all of Asia with a bunch of Horses and Tents? Well, trust me when I tell you he was pretty important.According to legend, Genghis Khan asked to be buried without markings or any sign. Sounds actually pretty humble to me. Our all-time favourite explorer Marco Polo wrote that, even by the late 13th century, the Mongols did not know the location of the tomb.  The Secret History of the Mongols has the year of Genghis Khan’s death (1227) but no information concerning his burial. In the “Travels of Marco Polo” he writes that “It has been an invariable custom, that all the grand khans, and chiefs of the race of Genghis-khan, should be carried for interment to a certain lofty mountain named Altaï, and in whatever place they may happen to die, although it should be at the distance of a hundred days’ journey, they are nevertheless conveyed thither.”. Pretty sure though that he wrote that in Latin and not English. Today experts believe that the Tomb is somewhere in the Sacrad mountains of Burkhan Khaldun.

7) Dead Sea Copper ScrollsEver gone out with your buddies to do some cave exploring? Well, some Bedouins did just that and found a bunch of Scrolls in the Caves. They kept them, brought them to a salesman and this Salesmen sold them to Scholars. Those Scolars translated the Scrolls and saw that some of them were not only the oldest versions of the old Testament but other led to some Treasures. They also found in the caves, scrolls made of copper. Those Scrolls couldn’t be translated just yet but maybe they also lead to Treasure

8) La Buse TreasureThere once was a Pirate called Olivier Le Vasseur or La Buse. He did his fair share of Piracy in the early Seventeen hundreds before he was captured. He was brought to London and put into jail. But our mate La Buse made a bargain with his British captures. He gave them the location of a buried treasure. He told the Brits that this treasure is just a fraction of his fortune and when they found it they knew he did not lie and if they let him go he would tell them the location of the rest of his treasure. The Brits found the small buried treasure but they didn’t wanted to let La buse leave so they executed him anyway. On the Day of his execution,  La Buse threw a piece of Paper with a cipher on it into the crowd and yelled „you want my Treasure?! You can have it! Go look for it! Somewhere I hid the World’s Greatest Treasure!“ And yes One piece took that from La Buse.

9) Amber Room Well, the Amber room the „Main Treasure“ took by the Nazis in WWII. The Amber room is basically a bunch of wall Panels made with Amber and gold. It is worth a fortune. It is known where the Room came from and where it went during WWII but it is not known where the Nazis hid it when they saw that they were about to lose the war. There are a few theories like it is hidden in an underground train station somewhere in Poland, or it is in A Bunker near the Baltic Sea, or so many other theories. The one I think is plausible is the one that the Room is hidden somewhere in a forest near Berlin. I do not have any in-depth research regarding this, I only know that every Treasure Hunter who went there to look for the Amber room, was murdered the same way, Three cuts across the stomach. If this area is protected like this maybe there is something there.

10) Sarcophagus of Menkaur Menkaur, one of the Pharaohs who had one of the Great Pyramids of Gizeh built as a mausoleum for himself. If you are now thinking: „Ah Egypt, a lost Sarcophagus, so I probably have to look for it in a Pyramid, old Temple, maybe the Desert“ Then you would be wrong. The Sarcophagus of Menkaur was already found, in his Pyramid and then it was loaded on a ship to go to London. But the ship sank somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea. So yeah, no Desert expedition but you have to get your feet wet for this one.
